Post when you watch a film

Recommended Posts

I really wish someone would change the title of this thread. Every time I read it I have to resist typing 'no' or 'yes'. It plays out in my head like a conversation with someone you really don't like but can't escape from.

Cunt: "So, anyone seen any good movies recently?"

Me: "No. Fuck off, Cunt."

Edited the title.

I watched "Les Mis" last night and you know what? I think it has to rate as the worst thing I have ever seen, even shit like Birdemic and Catwoman were better than this luvvie filled self fellating bag of bollocks. The "singing" was dire other than for a few people that obviously were in the stageplay, Anne Hathaway wasn't a bad signer though, but her face when she sang made me want to break her jaw, pretty much the entire male cast were fucking awful singers.

Much to my girlfriends annoyance, the only way I could get through the film was to drink copious amounts of alcohol (the not drinking thing has had a hiccup) and sing along, changing the lyrics or making jokes about Victorian era practices, such as child prostitution, so when Huge Jackman came to rescue the little blonde girl, you can imagine what was coming out of my mouth.

And why the fuck did they cast such a broad Cockney kid for the barricade bit? That was completely cringeworthy, and you just expected him to come out with a "cor blimey guv'nor, it's tha fuzz and no mistake!" every time Russel Crowe appeared.

2hrs 38mins of sheer pain

Winnebago Man is a documentary about a guy who unwittingly became an internet celebrity, when outakes from a promotional video made in the 80's became an Internet viral hit. It's a bit lightweight, but interesting, funny and very watchable.

Ash, my reaction to The Miserables was exactly the same. A perfectly titled film that made me want to perforate my own ear drum.

Last night we watched a film called Mother's Day. It's kind of a horror/thriller and is pretty brutal in places but it's also very well made/acted and totally engrossing. Highly recommended.

Went to see Django Unchained at the cinema with my lady on Friday, it's great. Also, we watched Sleepers last night, nearly didn't happen as her DVD box appeared to be empty but Blockbuster had it for £2 in their (fire)sale.

Watched Tropic Thunder last night. I enjoyed it as much this time as the 4/5 times before. The wife however did not. Silly wife.(It was her 1st time just to clarify!)

watched young adult - very watchable in that indie film way and enjoyable. its tone can be changed greatly if you consider

that the hate crime guy got attacked because charlize's character used to call him a theatre fag and her then jockish boyfriend buddy - and his friends attacked him.

also watched hanna - thought it was shit tbh. nicely done visually and acted well but it just left me kind of pissed off for some reason.

girl with a dragon tatoo (american done one) - actually really enjoyed it and would like to see the sequels but....the thing with the glasses on his head and the main plot wrap up? and of course salanders eyebrows

The Imposter - Incredible true story about a missing child that turns up after almost 4 years. Saying any more would ruin it. Must see!!

I saw Django at the weekend. Thought it was very good apart from Tarantino's appalling accent. Also, the cinema seats were shockingly uncomfortable, so the end dragged a bit. Will probably enjoy it more on DVD on the sofa.

I just saw the Raid, which was a solid action movie, but didn't blow me away. Dredd had a similar concept but was better all round imo.

Wreck it Ralph in the cinema was good, but not up there with the best of Pixar/Dreamworks etc. Some cool game references but the overall plot was very child friendly and didn't touch on enough of the other game worlds hinted at. Def take your kids to it, and worth seeing. Also don't be late, there was a good little unrelated short at the start.

One thing about Ralph that really highlights a piracy issue is that this came out on DVD in the US before we got it in the cinema. Really poor move by Disney there.

The US DVD is due out on March 5th, so not long after it finally got to the cinemas here. The US got the film at the beginning of November, I've got no idea why the rest of the world had a 3 month wait, it makes no fucking sense, it's not like they ship cannisters of film around the world anymore.

C&P from MFg... I saw these at the weekend:

Popatopolis

A documentary about a prolific B-movie directory attempting to make a terrible looking film in 3 days. Watching these people make their shitty movie is fun.

It also has interesting interview sections with B-movie people talking about how the old, creative, experimental, low-budget B-movies of the past have gone away, replaced by softcore parody titles, filled with porn stars because they're cheap and churned out in a week or two per film.

Brick

The debut independent film from the writer/director of Looper. It's a hardboiled noir-style detective story, but set in a US high school. It occasionally feels silly, and hearing dialogue you'd normally expect in a black and white crime drama is odd at first, but ultimately I enjoyed it.

Searching For Sugarman - A great documentary about a musician from the 60's that just disappeared and the search to find out why happened to him.

A great watch and an amazing tale.

Yeah, we ran that in our place, properly good stuff. I had that song in my head for weeks too.

Watched the new Total Recall t'other night, as many have said, surprisingly good stuff. Nice references to the original without it treading on its toes - how a remake should be. Still prefer the original though.

Also watched Premium Rush, the bike courier in New York film. Not bad. Leave your brain at the door, and it's a decent chase movie.

Thanks for the heads up!

gf and I are watching through 24 (on season 1), it's nice being back in the early days when it was new and fresh before it got repetitive.

I watched Lethal Weapon 1 - 4 as I don't actually think I've sat through and watched a full one before. Riggs is a dick.

Also, Paul. I don't think I laughed once.
