Anthem - POC - PS4 - Bone

Recommended Posts

Just watched a 20 minute play through, looks like destiny crossed with monster Hunter in mechs.

Obviously I'm still PC bound as not got this gens consoles. Might have to pick this up if matchmaking is any good and it has controller support at launch.

Yeah holding out hope for this one as the next big co-op game ( I wanted it to be Fallout 76 but I'm not sure it will be).

PS4 here when it does eventually drop.

I bounced off Destiny 1 & 2 so hard after the first few weeks that I'm worried I'll do the same with something trying to emulate that experience. I'm hesitantly waiting for the reviews on this one.

The end game in the Destiny's never got their hooks into me, but I got an easy 30-40 hours play from each and am happy with that. If Anthem offers the same kind of experience I'm sure I'll check it out.

Rumblings that this needs to do very well to keep Bioware afloat.

I can't really see it being more than a bit of a dud to be honest, haven't been at all impressed by the vertical slices and refusal to show live gameplay. It'll sell well for sure but probably fizzle out Destiny 2 style quite quickly.

That's the crux of it for me. I can't think of anything I've seen that just looks so unenthusing from head to toe. It just looks so... design by committee.

It all seems a bit, go here, shoot the glowy thing, rinse and repeat. Looks pretty though

I felt very Similar with both Destiny games.

Played the first half our of Anthem on PC earlier and it was distinctly OK so far.

I signed up for EA Premier so I could play through this. I've fallen off Live service games in a big way so I'm not in it for the long haul. Most places are slating it but I enjoyed the beta and I've played through the first mission which was fun enough.

Basically if I get a few weeks out of it that'll do me.

It looks like a looter shooter which forgot that the reason looters like Warframe, Diablo and Destiny work is because it's all geared to getting you into that fun looty fighting bit as quickly and repeatedly as possible so that the lack of variety doesn't really matter. Kill kill kill kill loot loot scrap sell kill kill kill, etc. It's that relentlessness that makes the grind work. Anthem's shooty core looks pretty good but it looks like 3 minute long load screen, walk, fly, conversation, walk, fly, bit of kill, walk, talk, load screen, walk... Marrying that Biowareness to a looter game just doesn't work. It's why Destiny went with a silent protagonist, so that once things get going you can do the fun looty shooty stuff while the plot just... happens in the background. People make fun of it, but relegating a lot of lore and story to journals is a good way in this sort of game to ensure the world feels developed without keeping players away from the fun bit.

So I've played about 4 hours now. It's fun enough, but not without issues. The world building is good, but there's a big bad introduced in a cutscene who dies then in the next mission you're facing his sidekick who isn't even mentioned...

The moment to moment gameplay is fun, more so because I'm playing co-op. It's basically the Resident Evil 5 of loot shooters.
