PS4 vs PS4 Pro vs PSVR

Recommended Posts

So the itch of having £21k redundancy in my bank in a few weeks has me doing the old "dude I totally have no need for but want to buy X"

I don't have a PS4, or a Bone, or a WiiU, or a Switch, I was toying with the idea of getting a graphics card upgrade and a HTC Vive, but that's a lotta dollars.

The cheaper, literally half price option is obviously getting a PS4 and the PSVR, but the question I posit, is does the PS4 Pro really offer much, if anything when using the PSVR, or PS4 games in general? the interwebs seem divided on the PSVR point and the smart money is on game developers targeting the base model PS4, however the logical buying decision is the Pro as eventually the base PS4 will be McCann'd.

I know the £100 extra between the models is pocket change with all those digits in my bank balance, but deep inside I know £100 is a lotta money if there's little benefit.

Sway me, one way or another, or don't and quaff my salty tears as the loneliness slowly devours my soul and I buy a £300 bottle of 25 year single malt to numb the pain.

If you're going from zero the pro makes more sense. That's what made my mind up. From here on out the 'pro enhanced ' games are only going to keep increasing as well.

Plus you need a pro to take full advantage of the VR, unless I'm mistaken?

I think ginj went from a regular to a pro. May be wrong.

I did. I noticed benefits even before I upgraded to my 4K tv.

I would say go for Pro, it's a small price to pay and you're future proofing to a degree. Boost mode on The Witcher 3(which is getting a proper patch now) makes all the difference. Horizon looks the nuts. DO IT!

As for VR I'm still on the fence.

Cheers guys, will go Pro then, just looked at the exchange rate, buying one in Japan won't save me sod all, shame, I picked up my first PS3 in Japan and took it home in a rucksack.

Do "specialist" sites with VR video work on the PSVR?

I think it was The Inpatient (and Summer Lesson *cough*) that sold me on getting a PSVR at the same time, might have to *wretch* go to Game and do that paid demo thing, assuming they haven't stopped doing it after all the backlash.

I have a PS4 pro, and while it is awesome hooked up to my 4k tv, the boost mode on node pro patched games is also a real win. I love it.

Just an aside how easy would transferring my data to a pro from a norm be? I'm a ways off converting but it's nice to know.

And ash, I don't believe the Pro enhances VR.

You can either just back up your saves to the cloud and then redownload all the games and saves to the new one.

The other option involves attaching an External HDD and back the whole thing up, then plug it into the new one and restore it.

I had a bit of a digital clearout when I did it as I had 1.5TB used on my drive and that would take forever....

I've only a half a tb, should be quicker. Is it right you can't play stuff from an external hdd?

Cheers Wayne.

If you have both systems at the same time (i.e. not traded in the old one) you can link them both and it directly copies everything across. I did that to ensure I didn't lose PT. This was before external storage was possible so not sure how that works.

You can now, so you don't have to mess around upgrading the internal drives. However it's very easy. I bought a 2tb external drive, took it out of caddy and then put that drive into the caddy to use on my WiiU.
