I'm getting all excited now for the new gen! But which way are you guys going?

 

720 - Would be the natural choice for me as my 360 has been my 'go to' console for the last 7 years, and I was a big fan of the 359. But I really don't like the way M$ has gone with it over the last 3-4 years. Now it's just a bloody advert/ownload box for a load of tat I don't want. I actually find it a small challenge to load games and stuff on it now and I can only see it getting worse with the 720. I do however enjoy the Gamer Points sytem.

 

PS4- PS3 has been a flop for me. Great Blu-ray player for which it gets used loads, but I make a conscience decision to purchase games for it just so I have an excuse to turn it on (Dragon Age, Skyrim), I don't really enjoy Sony exclusives but then pretty much everything is multi-platform now. I do have an inlking Sony may be a bit more aggressive and standard this time round though, I hope they've learned from their own arrogance at the PS3 launch.

 

WiiU - LOL (maybe as a second console, but then I got rid of my Wii years ago which is the first time I've ever sold a console mid-life)

 

Steambox, Andriod systems - Not interested. They'll all flop. You need the mainstream idiots to make a console work and they won't give a shit about these.

 

PC - Now this is an interesting choice. I used to do all my proper gaming on PC before this gen, and I was just looking over my old games with nostalgia. 'Tis expensive though, and not as comfy, and there's no way the missus will appreciate a PC hooked up to the TV.

 

I will not being buying multiple consoles this gen. I normally make my mind up beforehand but this time I really need for info before I can choose. What about you guys?

I'm going to be sticking with PC for the forseeable future. I reckon my current poc will manage the early multiplatform games pretty well, then when prices drop I may jump in and pick up one or both for the exclusives depending on teh moneyz.

 

Or I may just stick with poc and upgrade if the exclusives aint all that.

 

There is no way on earth I am jumping in to this new gen at launch after red rings/price drops that's for sure.

I have a feeling I'll be going PS4 this time perhaps. Assuming they learn the lessons from the PS3 they have the tools to deliver as Microsoft have been slowly moving away from games by getting rid of their first party studios and pushing non gaming to the forefront of the UI on Xbox. I don't really have time for online gaming anymore and even though I love seeing notifications that someone has just logged on I could probably live without it. The Vita has failed to the point where they simply have to deliver now and I think they will. I love my 360, I have more games for it than any other console and it's better than the PS3 but I think MS will drop the ball here and it will be Sony who picks it up.

 

Obviously Wii U is great but not next gen in that sense and seeing as I already own it it doesn't count in my thinking. Valve can fuck off in my opinion as I have no interest in PC gaming due to the costs (new next gen graphics card is £850), no elegance to Steam as I don't have a PC and all they ever gave me was Half Life and Portal and seeing as all of the consoles have given my many many many more exclusive enjoyable gaming experiences I simply don't understand why people love them so much as to declare them the winners already. (not you guys but the press)

 

Also Ouya is interesting but phone games are disposable shite anyway so I have no interest in playing them on an even bigger screen.

im undecided, for a while i was really considering being a day one 720 buyer but due to all the rumours & speculations i am currently one of the following;

1. 720 if its basically a new 360 thats quiet, has a big hard drive, doesnt make me be online all the time(watched by a kinect). and its backwards compatible. and it plays every video format under the sun.

2. steambox - if its as promised/desired - a high end gaming pc experience on the tv but with the ease of console gaming. ideally i want this the most.

3. stay stuck in the mud with the 360 (probably still playing fucking borderlands 2).

If the PS4/720 really are almost identical inside (PS4 has more cores, 720 has more RAM but that's it for differences) then you only really have the exclusives to think about as the cross platform games should be identical (but we all know they will be geared more towards the 720)

 

Waggle controls, Kinnect, all that shit doesn't interest me, so I don't care about all the "innovation" in that respects, I just want a faster machine and better handling of updates. Oh and some more fucking Vita games would be nice, not even turned the thing on for FFVII in ages!

I've been Sony only for ages now.  My 360 sat untouched for years before I finally sold it last year.

 

I kinda hope Sony do what what M$ did last gen.  The PS2 had dominated and the XBOX, while not a flop, was definitely a learning experience for them.  Next gen Sony get arrogant and M$ hit the ground running but as the end arrives M$ seem to have turned into a fat lazy bloated slob.  Hopefully Sony will push the innovations and integrate Vita in there too.  Between move and the Vita there's no real reason why they can't port 720 and wiiU games.  Hopefully they will actually try to push things instead of copying everyone else though.

Hmmm.  I've been Sony only for a while now and personally I don't mind the PS3 at all.  The updates I don't care about because I can do them quickly anyway.  Loving Playstation Plus... free games?  Who wouldn't like that.

 

It's been so long since I've played an Xbox I can't remember what the interface was like.  PS3 does everything I need it to.  I don't even need to upgrade yet, depends what the new one can do that the PS3 can't.

 

The Xbox will probably have to be able to provide free porn or something to sway me.

None of them for a while: at least until we know all the details, most likely until both are out long enough for us to see the good and bad in everyday use, and probably after a price cut or a decent number of must pay titles.

For me, it's a wait and see game. I'm pretty invested in Microsoft but the way that Live vs. PSN has been going, with many of the games being identical, the new Playstation may well be the better choice this time around. Keeping shelling out $60 a year for Live just for access to features Sony is giving away for free - plus the option of Plus and loads of free games on top of that - isn't going to be sustainable for Microsoft in the next gen.

Yeah but as long as I have the option to ignore it and just use a regular controller, then I'm happy! That's something you largely don't get a choice with on the Wii/U.

But gaming sites are treating rumours and anonymous 'leaks' saying that as certified fact.

I can't see them backtracking on free online gaming, seeing as that was the (only) advantage it had over XBL, possibly expanding on PSN+ might be an option though. If there really is stuff like social media sharing of screenshots/videos, then that could easily be locked to only PSN+ subscribers.

Things I want -

 

- Integration of ps4 and vita be it by expanded crossplay (which I still think is brilliant btw and massively undersold)

- PSN still free.  PS+ still charged under the same model (ie.free games etc)

- MAYBE backwards compatibility.  With some titles still to come or just releasing I can't help but feel no backwards comp would be a shot in the dick.

- Better online integration (stopping the stupid update system

- Oh and I want a fucking GAMES system.  Not a media centre. Not a facebook device.  I will accept apps like netflix and lovefilm and iplayer.  But I don't want to upload screenshots to twitter because even I'm not that cunty!

 

Oh and one SKU... I know they're trying to maximise sales but having two sku's £100 apart is stupid.  Just have the bigger sku at £50 cheaper and no bottom sku. Everyone gets the same and the sales will SURELY even out.
